Countries with NO Coronavirus Cases
Last year, in the month of December 2019, the coronavirus disease was only restricted to China. But with people continuously flying in and out of the country, this virus crossed borders and soon became a global pandemic.
Coronavirus disease, also known as COVID-19 is basically a respiratory sickness caused by the transmission of body fluids such as saliva or mucus. This virus has been reported in at least 188 countries around the world till now.
Several scientists, government officials and health professionals all around the world have advised people to strictly practice social distancing and self-isolate themselves unless they have to step out for essentials.
Recent stats and a data report gathered by Johns Hopkins University shows that more than 9.4 million people are infected and are suffering from COVID-19. Moreover, more than 500k people have been dead by this fatal virus and over 4 million people have successfully recovered.
There are a few countries that were not touched by the coronavirus at all and have no reported cases, take a look:
Asian Countries
The countries which have not been affected and have no reported cases in Asia are North Korea, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan.
There is no surprise to that fact that North Korea, ruled by Kim Jong-un has already had a cut off with the rest of the world. This has surely worked in North Korea’s favour. It has reported zero cases till now instead of being bordered by China and Russia in the north and east side and with South Korea in the south.
Furthermore, North Korea does not have any type of governmental support or free healthcare, so there is no possibility to test for COVID-19 at all.
Recently, the World Health Organisation stated that North Korea’s citizens are self-isolating and testing for COVID-19 after getting the testing kits from its neighbour China. On the other hand, South Korea has declared that its neighbour military is practising 30 days lockdown.
It is also believed that the people of North Korea are very sensitive to respiratory issues which can be seen from their 11 per cent death per year. People also show higher risks of heart disease, and that, as we all know, caused the largest amounts of death around the world. Therefore, many health experts agree that it is unlikely that this country has zero cases until now.
Coming to Turkmenistan, it is one of the thinly populated countries in the Asian continent with just 5-6 million citizens. It has an extremely poor healthcare system with ill-qualified and incapable workers. Also, their inability to handle the coronavirus situation is the thing that concerns the citizens of Turkmenistan the most.
Thankfully, it is not touched by the virus and they recently held a mass cycling rally on World Health Day. They also expressed their fear about talking about COVID-19 due to a ban on the word ‘coronavirus’.
The last country in Asia is Tajikistan. A landlocked and mountainous place which imposed a ban on entry of visitors from 35 countries at the very beginning of March. Some visitors who had already entered the country were put to quarantine.
Tajikistan also ranks very low on the healthcare chart and has very high infant and maternal mortality rates. Its water pollution and poor nutrition problems along with several cases of malaria, cholera, TB and typhoid make it one of the highest at-risk countries during this ongoing pandemic. However, it was provided with a fund of $11 million grant by the World Bank, in case they got infected by the coronavirus diseases.
Africa
Lesotho and Comoros are the two countries that have no coronavirus cases. The WHO has been managing the Comoros island in Madagascar by screening travellers. They quarantined almost 250 travellers who entered the country, but thankfully, no one tested positive. Currently, this country is under partial lockdown.
On the other hand, Lesotho is the only country in the world which lies above 1000 m above sea level. It was under lockdown till April 21 and soon the government declared people working in public and private sectors and students to stay inside and encouraged its people currently out of the country to not return to Lesotho.
Ocean Countries
Surprisingly, there are eight ocean countries with zero cases of COVID-19. These island nations are Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Palau, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
These countries have less than 700k population, have inadequate health care facilities and were forced to shut themselves down. The health professionals said that if any of these islands catch the virus that the mortality rate with being extreme as people with heart diseases, chest problems and diabetes on these islands are very high.
Nauru is one of the smallest countries in the world with just a population of 10,000 people. It is supported with only one hospital and no ventilators. It also suspended many flights and only allowed flights to Australia from thrice a week to once a fortnight.
The hotels around the country were declared under quarantine location and any person visiting from Australia was quarantined for two weeks.
Last but not least, these islands cannot be on a lockdown for a very long time as they survive on imports. But it is sure that these ocean islands are the last places after Antarctica where coronavirus will reach on this planet.
